In this blog I will be showing you how we can add Dimensions and Dimension values in Business Central. I’m going to show this with an example adding a new dimension by name “Department” and few Dimension values to it. Only two dimensions can be global.
To do this first I will go to my search tab at the top and type dimensions. As you can see in the search result we can find “Dimensions” click on it.
New window will open from here you can add, Edit or Delete “Dimensions”
Type the name of the Dimension here as shown above in screen shot. By mentioning following fields values.
· Code
· Name
· Code Caption
· Filter Captions
· Description
After Adding the Dimension, the form will auto save. As you can see in the screen shot below, I have added a dimension named “Department”
As now the dimension is been added next step would be to add the dimension values to it. Click on the Dimension row in which you want to add the values and click the “Dimension” you will see another section will show up with following option to select from.
· Dimension values
· Account Type Default Dim.
· Transactions
Select Dimension values option from it.
As you can see few, I have already added to them now I will add the following values to it.
· Information Technology
· Operations
· Productions
· Sales
You can also set up the Dimension value type for each dimension you have added in my case I have made all values as standard. The options are following as sown in the below screen shot.
· Standard
· Heading
· Total
· Begin-Total
· End-Total
